# Converting inches to feet.inches

Hi everyone,

I have a spreadsheet that adds length, in inches. In the last cell, I want it to convert the inches to feet and inches (not feet and fraction of a foot).

Example:

In cell A1 - 1765
In cell A2 I would like it to say 147.1 (147 feet, dot, 1 inch)

The way I tried to do it:
Cell A1 - 1765
Cell A3 - =A1/12
Cell A4 - =INT(A3)
Cell A5 - =A1-(A4*12)
Back in Cell A2 - =CONCATENATE(A4,".",A5)

When I do this, I get 147.1.113640000000003. Or something similar.
The result in Cell A2 is for display only. It will never be used to calculate anything else.

Using Excel 2003, Windows XP.

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".

One possibility:
=ROUNDDOWN(A1/12,0)&"."&A1-ROUNDDOWN(A1/12,0)*12

if your feet is in A1 try this in A2...

=INT(A1/12)&"."&MOD(A1,12)

=round(a1/12,1)

EDIT: oops, you have correct answers above.

=round(a1/12,1)

?

That will not work in all the cases (it returns decimals of a foot, not inches). For example: 119 inches is 9' 11" your formula will return 9.9

Yes, hence the prior EDIT.
