I'm sure that there are much better ways to compare lists to come up with a master list, but this is what I am trying to do:
I have 4 lists of unique identifiers and descriptions; not one list has all of them. I need to show a list of every identifier in column A. I have stretched the lists down, so that each row has a different identifier beside the column of descriptions. Some rows have this information in columns B & C, some in H & I, some in all columns. Now I want to copy the identifier into Column A. Is there a way to ask that the first text to the right of my cell is copied?

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Can you show some data that you are working with. It will make it easier to understand. Show some as is and some how you want it to appear.

Thank you so much for helping. This is really causing a problem for me.
Here is a sample of the type of data. I'm trying to put a formula in column A to display the code for that row. I need column A to be my master list of codes.

Another way (assumes data provided resides in A2:I8):

Code:
=INDEX(B2:I2,MATCH(TRUE,B2:I2<>"",0))

Committed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER and then copied down.

I like the idea of using the Index feature, Matty. I think that the description columns are preventing this from working for me though.

Does Column A below not show the values you want returning?
