This is something I came across probably 3-4 years ago, but it's happening again and I cannot remember the fix for it.

Scenario: I am copy data in a table from an accounting website and pasting it into excel. In one instance of Excel, it pastes as expected, columns align through the tab. In another instance, same version, same computer different profile, it pastes out of format, the tabs don't align the columns properly.

Any help on how to get these 2 to respond the same to pasted table data would be appreciated

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Never type with low blood sugar... clarity post

I have data in a table that is from an accounting website. If i copy the full table and paste it into excel, the columns do not align properly in one instance of excel, but aligns fine in another instance of excel (different profile, same everything else). I have ensured all the options/settings in Excel are the same, so I'm not sure where the issue stems from.

Things I've tried:
Data import from file (notepad)
text to columns (based off tabs)
notepad++ elastictabsstop feature -> copy & paste into excel from there

there are 1000+ rows, so it's not something i can just go into and manually fix one by one for import... but most of all, doesn't make sense that one instance of excel gets it right and the other does not, same pc, same hardware, same everything, just a different user profile.

Is there any chance that the Text to Columns settings have been changed on the instance that is not working ?

The Excel Text to Columns wizard remembers a lot of the settings from a previous Text to Columns operation, they only reset to the default when you close the Excel application and reopen it. This is the only way that I have experienced the issue you seem to be having in the past.

I played with all those options inside text to columns menu, and none of them could accurately display the data.

I did a 1 for 1 change... Each change I made on profile 1 I made on profile 2 and viewed the outcome, profile 2 always worked as expected, profile 1 did something different
