I have 4 Conditional Formats in the C column running down 1800 rows. I want to copy and paste the formula's into the next coumn, the next and so on. The problem I have is when I copy and paste, it copies the formula but does not complete the complete range in "applies to"

If I copy from column C to D the D range says =$D$2 and not -$D$2:$D$1800

Excel 2007

Thanks

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
What is your exact Conditional Formatting Formula?
Are you just looking at one cell (i.e. row 2)?
What does it show in the next row (row 3)?

These are the formula's

=AND($W2<1000,Z2>($V2*4))
=AND($W2>1000,$W2<3000,Z2>($V2*2))
=AND($W2>3000,Z2>($V2*1.5))
=AND($W2>2000,Z2=0)

They are copied fine into the next column, it is the range that is not copied

The CF runs down 1796 rows. The range in the first cell looks like this =$Z$2:$Z$1796

But when it is copied into the next column it looks like this =$Z$2

So the :$Z$1796 is missing if all that makes sense.

I have to copy the CF into 30 columns often so I have now manually add the range to 120 CFs'

Thanks

I am having trouble recreating your problem.

Which version of Excel are you using?
Can you explain exactly how you are entering your Conditional Formatting formula and then the exact methodology you are using to copy it?

Hi, Thanks for your help.

I am using excel 2007. I have the 4 CF formulas set up in a cell. Each one has a colour linked to it. Then I insert the range into where it says "Applies to", to the right of the colour box ie. $A$2:$A$1796. I do that to the 4 formulas which then runs them down all 1796 rows. Now I want to copy those CF formulas into row B, then, C, then D and so on.

All I am doing is selecting the cell in A2 and pasting it into B2. The formula's are copied OK but the range does not copy, but I have just realised something, I am not selecting the whole 1796 rows, and then copy and pasting it into the next cell. Sorry about all this. Seems so obvious. The range is not being copied because I am only selecting 1 cell.

Again thank you. I am not the best with 2007 conditional formatting. You got me thinking but pretty much common sense which seems not to be commom in my case

Thanks
