copying/filling formulas

I have a simple formula in a cell. I dragged it down. This should copy the formula (and not the value) into each cell below.

The value in every cell below comes out same, although the formula should yield different values. As such, it appears that Excel copied the value rather than the formula.

However, when I click on each cell individully, the formula appears in the formula bar.

In other words, the values in the cells and the formulas in the formula bar do not match.

I'm getting the same problem when I copy and paste the formula rather than filling it down. That is, it copies the value but the formula appears in the formula bar.

When I re-type the formula into each cell below (i.e, rather than copying or filling down), the correct value is then yielded.

Recalculating with F9 worked. I didn't know about that. Thanks.

I can go ahead this way. However, now I'm wondering why this is happening now for the first time.

Go into the tools options menu, calculation tab and make sure calculation is set to automatic. Otherwise you will have to manually recalc by pressing F9

Hope this helps

Try a find and replace using "=" (without quotes) for the find what and replace with

That was the source of the problem. Tools-Options-Calc Automatic.

Didn't know about that setting.

Danke schoen, as they say in Germany.

I will close out the topic now.
