Copying Formulas in Range

I often find myself need to copy the exact formula in one cell to another cell. These are usually relative references so that when I copy and paste the cells referenced in the formula change too. I.E. formula in cell is = A1 and I copy and paste over one column the formula now reads = B1. What I would like to do is copy the actual actual formula in the cell not the relative reference in the formula.

I know I could set hard references (copy and paste = $A$1) but is there a cleaner way to do this?

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
An easy way is to change some part of the first formula in A1. On A1 change the = sign to equal and when you hit enter it is now just text. Copy this to all the cells you need to apply and then hightlight those cells and replace equal with =.

That makes sense but it isnt really what I want to do. I think the answer may be that there isnt an easy way to do this.
