Dear All,

I am facing a problem! The situation is that I have a folder which has a very complex structure. For example… Parent folder (Stage-1) then child (Stage-2), then Subchild (Stage-3), then sub-subchild (Stage-4) and each folder has many different files…. Now I want to make a copy of the whole folder and will make changes in this new folders.

When I created a copy of this whole folder and rename the Parent folder (Stage-1) to NewParent folder (Stage-1) this change is not fetched by stage3 files… I mean at stage-3 and later, files are still reading the old link i.e. from Parent(Stage-1).

Is there any way so that I can make a copy of whole folder and the linked files should read from new copy and not from old folder?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
Your links seem to be structured the wrong way round. Supporting data is supposed to be in child folders. You seem to be saying that reports in child folders are linking to data in the Parent folder.

If the data were structured correctly you'd be able to copy the entire structure in one operation.

Thank you for your time….

The structure of whole folder/data is at the level which cannot be changed now.

Let me give you a related example and hopefully this will get my query more clear and meaningful.

For example, I have below structure:

Folder1: which contains some excel files and below folders
Inside Folder1, I have Folder2
Inside Folder2, I have Folder3
Inside Folder3, I have Folder4
Inside Folder4, I have Folder5

Now if you change the name of Folder1 to Parent1 (all excel files are closed)…. The links in subfolders i.e. in folder2,3, 4, & 5 will be still reading Foder1 while you have change the name to Parent1. However the excel files which are in Foder1will be reading Parent1.

Please help if anyone can suggest a solution so that the child folder files should read Parent1 instead of Folder1.

Thanks

I think one way is to write a macro to replace the name of the formula links (replace \Parent\ with \NewParent\) for all files in child folder.
