Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Assuming that data is in A1:B4.

=SUM(IF(NOT(ISERROR(B1:B4)),--(A1:A4="x")))

Confirmed with Ctrl+Shift+Enter not just Enter

If you don't have XL2007, also:

=SUMPRODUCT(1-ISNA(B1:B4),--(A1:A4="x"))
