Count as 1 and 2 in excel formula

Hi
Need some help with a formula; i have a few columns let say they're called a, b, c, d and e. I need a formula that assigns a score of 1 point for each one with 'Y' in it. The problem is that 'e' is worth 2 points if it has a 'y' in that column
For example:
If a,b and e apply the score is 4
If a,b and c apply the score is 3
etc...
Gosh i hope that makes sense.

=IF(E1="Y",COUNTIF(A1:D1,"Y")+2,COUNTIF(A1:C1,"Y"))

in F

countif() the columns, then add 1 if e is Y:

=COUNTIF(A1:E1,"Y")+1*(E1="Y")
