Count if formula if sum of two cells is less than 8?

Hi,
I need a formula that will look at the sum of the cells in each of two adjacent rows and count it if the sum is less than 8. I can add a hidden column that adds the two numbers and then use that column in my formula to count if the answer is less than 8 but I would rather not add the hidden column. Can someone help me write something so I don't have to add a column? In looking at the selection below, I would have an answer of 2. Thank you in advance for looking at this! Roobydoo

You are right. That one didn't work, it gave the opposite answer. Not sure why.

I meant to refer you to the MMULT array formula of post #4 which returns 2 as requested.

By the way, you have helped me a lot over the years with the formulas you have worked out for me. Thanks!
