Hello all, I’m having some issues with count if. I have a spread sheet that records exam results. I have a column (Column A)with dates and a column with results (Column C). Each Cell in column C has a drop down list. Pass, Fail, Waiting results. I want to check column C for how many exams are ‘Waiting Results’ depending on the year in column A My formula is this =COUNT(IF(YEAR($A$2:$A$50)=2017,$C$2:$C50,”Waiting Results*). This formula does not throw up any errors but the results it gives me is only a count of how many times 2017 appears in column A, but I want to know how many exams are waiting results for a specific year (in this case 2017). Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

You can try like this for 2017:

=COUNTIFS(A2:A50,">="&DATE(2017,1,1),A2:A50,"<="&DATE(2017,12,31),C2:C50,"Waiting Results*")

Sorry I’ve just realised the formula i put in this post is wrong the actual formula i use is =COUNT(IF(YEAR($A$2:$A$50)=2016,$C$2:$C$50,”*Waiting results*”)), I have entered this using Ctrl+shift+enter as I believe it is an array formula
