Is there a formula to count the number of nonblank cells if another row meets certian criteria. eg. I want to count the nonblank cells in column B if column A = bank

Ok, try one of these...

This one will work in ANY version of Excel:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A2:A10="bank"),--(B2:B10<>""))

This one will work in Excel 2007 and later:

=COUNTIFS(A2:A10,"bank",B2:B10,"<>")

I would wait to see Valko's response, I imagine more efficient. Here's my shot:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A9="bank"),--(NOT(ISBLANK(B1:B9))))

Hi

Can you also do this if the data is in rows? I cannot get the correct answer without transposing the data
