I have tried to look the answer but without success. What I need to do is the following.

First, I have a spreadsheet with names and dates when inmates are released.

On another sheet within the same workbook, I want to have a table with how many inmates were released in Jan, Feb, etc.

Can anyone help? Thank you.

Excel Facts

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
I was thinking a formula that will go to Sheet1 and count those inmate released between the 1'st and the end of each month or that just will count those that are released in Jan 07, etc.

Thanks...

If you have dates in sheet1!B2:B100 then this formula will count how many of those dates are in January 2007

=SUMPRODUCT(--(TEXT(sheet1!B2:B100,"mmm yy")="jan 07"))
