If I have a a column like:

313111
313112
313111
313144
314256
315876

How would I count occurrences of the string "313" in the beginning of each string, throughout hte column?

For instance, the count on this column would be 4.

Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
One way is to use a helper column.

If your numbers are in Col A, put this formula in Col B
Code:
=left(A1,3)

Then this formula will count the number of entries of 313 in Col B
Code:
=COUNTIF(b1:b1000,"313")
