count the instances of a text phrase not occurring in a rang

Does anyone have a quick formula for counting, for example, the number of times the phrase "No Show" does not occur in a range?

Do you mean...

=COUNTIF(Range,"?*")-COUNTIF(Range,"*No Show*")

given your "does not occur" spec?
