countif and subtotal

=SUMPRODUCT(SUBTOTAL(2,OFFSET(A3,ROW(A3:A1000)-ROW(A3),0)),--(A3:A1000<="*"))

i am trying to use this formula to count cells just with text, but getting no results, HELP!

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)

=SUMPRODUCT(SUBTOTAL(103,OFFSET(A3,ROW(A3:A1000)-ROW(A3),0)),--(A3:A1000<>""))
