Hi, I need to calculate in cell K5 how many times "Y" appears in cells D5, F5, H5 and J5 so that I can then use this total to calculate how much money has been paid in Cell L5 (that last calculation I can do. what is the formula I need to use to count the number of times "Y" appears in the above Cells?

By the Way, Y will only appear once in each cell.

Many thanks

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
One way:
=(D5="Y")+(F5="Y")+(H5="Y")+(J5="Y")
