I am using count if to look at a table containing letters ( no problems )
The countif i'm using looks in a block of 4 cells and returns the answer. In the next cell i want to to enter another count if formula that looks in the same row but misses out four colloums eg
A1=COUNTIF(BN34:BQ34,"L")
B1=COUNTIF(BV34:BY34,"L")

What I'm looking for is an easy way to get excel to create the formulas if I drag a cell across a sheet rather than me having to type each formula in seperatly

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Hi bakerman

In A1 try:

=COUNTIF(OFFSET($BN$34,0,8*(COLUMN()-COLUMN($A$1)),1,4),"L")
copy to right

Hope this helps
