I have a spreadsheet where I have values in even rows and comments in the odd rows. I need to be able to check column A to see if it reads Absent or Late in the even rows. How would I craft a COUNTIF formula that looks for these particular values in every other row and counts them only if they say Absent?

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
=COUNTIF(B:B,"Absent")

Thank you for the response, JoeMo. Shortly after posting the thread, I figured out I was making it too difficult and a simple countif formula would do just fine. Couldn't figure out how to delete the post at that point. But thank you!
