I am hoping somone can help me. I have two columns of data and i am trying to count items depending on 2 variables. For example:

Column A
Open
Closed
Open
Open

Column B
Type 1
Type 2
Type 2
Type 1

I want to be able to count how many items are both OPEN and TYPE 1.

I have tried using both COUNTIF and SUMPRODUCT functions to no avail. e.g.

=SUMPRODUCT((A1:A4="Open")+(B1:B4="Type1"))

What am I doing wrong? What is the best way to do this?
