Countif with more than 1 condition

I understand how to use the countif function but now i'm stuck. How do you use countif to look for more than one condition
an example of what I am trying to do
=COUNTIF(J13:M13,"H")
=COUNTIF(J13:M13,"L")
=COUNTIF(J13:M13,"Sh")
Can I replace the above formulas with one formula
