Big table, with multiple columns, need to count no. of times it meets two criteria (two columns) in the table. Once I've got right formula I'll copy it across the new, simple table I've made: one criteria is x axis (headers), other criteria is y (first column). In the big table, i just need the number of times it meets both criteria (the name and code).

Can't attach file or give any more information as it's work stuff. Everything I try and do just returns zero, I've tried countif + countif and that doesn't work either. Also, array formulas won't cut it because there's so many name criterias and codes, all solutions I've found are to do with incorporating array formulas. In the simple table I'm making I just want the no. of times the specified cell (code in big table) appears under such and such name (name in big table in another column).

I reckon the solution has something to do with using maybe index and match functions outside the countif/s function, but I don't really know enough about these to figure it out myself.

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
