I have a set of employment termination categories that I need to be able to have a count of every time one of them is used. Here is the key:

Termination Code Description
ATN Attendance
COC Violation of Code of Conduct
DEA Death
FPC Failed Pre-Employment Check
JOB Job Abandonment
LVE Failure to Return from Leave
NI9 No I9 within 3 days of hire
RAT Retired
TAR Tardiness
TIH Taleo Invalid Hire
TRS Temporary Assignment/Return to School
UNS Unsatisfactory Performance
VCA Career Advancement
VHR Voluntary - Hours
CVIO Violation of Company Policy
VLD Voluntary - Leadership
VMU Mutual Separation
VPY Voluntary - Pay
VSP Voluntary Separation Program
VUN Voluntary - Unknown/Other
VPD Voluntary - Physicality of Job
PRI Part Time Reduction in Force

On a separate tab, it has several columns, the most important being the employee name and the the reason for termination. My question is for counting each of these codes used, would the best way be to use a Pivot Table or is there something different that could be used?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
have toy tried the =countif() function?

Yeah and I ran it by the employee. That will be good enough for him to use. I was thinking he would need more than just that type of data, but it turns out this is all he needs so I think a Pivot table would be overkill.
