Hi,

I have a large workbook that is running into it's maximum number of different formats...

I am going through and standardising the formatting to try and avoid this issue...

Is there a way of getting a running total of how many different formats a workbook has, excel's limit is 4000. I have found a thread that gives some code that will count the number of text formats. I need the total, font, border, protection etc etc...

TIA

Also, if you are using excel version 2007 or 2010, you can crack open the .xlsx by converting the extension into .zip and actually inspecting the styles.xml file (Don't do this on your actual file. Make a copy of it first and only tinker with the copy). But if you've got more than 4000 combinations, I don't think it's really going to yield a lot of beneficial information.

Anyway, sounds like you've got a mess to clean up. GL.

I'd start by changing everything to Style Normal, and changing all chart legends, scales, etc. to NOT have autoscaled fonts. (There's a registry fix you can make so that they are not by default). Then save, close, and reopen, and apply formats judiciously.
