Counting numbers - is it possible?

I have in cell A1 a number such as 1223144717, first is it possible to count how many digits are in this number and put the result in B1? next, count how many 1's are in the number in cell A1 and put the result in C1?
I don't think excel can do this, but if it can can anyone advise how?
