I need help with a formula for counting how many occurrences exist in 2 seperate columns. For instance in my spreadsheet in the Column Heading i have a Column for "New/Renewal" (designated by an "N" or an "R"). I also have a seperate column for "Successful/Unsuccessful" which is designated by entering a "S" or a "U".

What i need is a formula that counts how many times times, for instance, both "N" and "S" occur.

Does that make sense? Please help.

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
If your columns were A and B, are the rows were 1 to 11, this formula would work:

Code:
=SUMPRODUCT((A1:A11="N")*(B1:B11="S"))

SUMPRODUCT is the formula to use when you would like to use COUNTIF or SUMIF, but have muliple criteria.
