Counting specific types of characters in a cell

Question:

Cell 1A contains "XXX-XXX, XXX-XXX, XXX-XXX"

Cell 1B needs to count and return the number of dashes ("-") in cell 1A, so in this case "3".

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
