Counting the number of invoices

Hi

I have new problem that I need help with, is there anyway that the number of invoices can be counted if the details in the cell are as follows:

INV 1234/1235/1236

in this example there are 3 separate invoices in this cell, need to know is there away to get excel to return a value of 3.

Other examples are as follows:
INV 7662/7663 = 2 invoices
INV 8943 - 1 invoice

etc

Is one invoice always 4 numbers?

Could be enough:

=LEN(A1)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,"/",""))+1

With your formula, the number of digits wouldn't matter would it?

Nope, when the Invoice is always seperated by a "/" it wouldn't.
