Desperate:

My excel crashed. I rebooted, and downloaded a backup copy of it. Now when i open it, it says:

"SECURITY WARNING some active content has been disabled. Click for more details."

I instead Enable Content, and when it does so, most features are grayed out, including saving it and even closing it! It's completely useless like that. That copy was always OK, so I don't know if excel on my actual computer is hosed, or if that file is forever marked as a "problem" that needs to be "isolated". The file is really OK.

How do I teach excel it's really OK?

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
If it has macros, disable them before opening.
Try renaming the file in Explorer
Have you tried the file on a different PC
Did you reboot Excel or the whole PC.....reboot the whole PC if you didn't
