Crashes in split database after conversion to Access 2000

Hi, I have struck a weird problem.
Updating a database from Access 97 to Access XP (2000 format) creates an unstable beast. For most of the linked tables, if I try to open them the database crashes. Upgraded from XP SR-1 to SR-3 but still the same problem.
Next, I created a new database and imported everything into it. Worked fine, but when I split the new database, it started crashing again.
Any clues? This is driving me nuts!

Re: Crashes in split database after conversion to Access 200

For those who have been scratching their heads over this one, I got the answer from Knowledge Base. Turns out that Access 2000 and XP crash when the path to a linked table exceeds 128 characters (mine did...)
It can be fixed by (1) shortening the path using a UNC name or (2) upgrading to Jet 4.0
Hope this saves you some pain too...
