Create a date format MMDD

Hi - Hope the brains out there can help me'tired one out!

I currently have a file that states birthdates like this - 08/25/1990.
I need it to reflect a format like this MMDD ie 0825 for the above sample
It need to show leading zeros in both the Month and the day .
I have tried, text formulas, concatenate/un, date formats, format cellx/custom/0000 and not even sure which path to follow.
Help?

This should work (assumes the date is in A2):

=(TEXT(MONTH(A2),"00"))&(TEXT(DAY(A2),"00"))
