Creating a Divison problem (NOT FUNCTION) in excel

I am creating timed tests in Excel. I have had no problem doing addition, subtraction, and multiplication... I'm not at a spot where I have to do division and it needs to look like this


7 |42 with a line over the 42.

I use this great randomizer where I can plug in 6 x 7 , 7 x 7, 8 x 7 and it will randomize them. These are in ONE cell. My randomizer won't work if it's in more than one cell. Anyone have any ideas?

Or, how can I "overline" instead of underline???

The easiest way would be just to use a slash:
1/2

But perhaps:

=A1&CHAR(10)&REPT("-",LEN(A1)+3)&CHAR(10)&A2

with the numerator in A1 and the denominator in A2. This cell must be set to wrap text.

Do you mean that you need to show things, such as, 7/42? Why, just add a single quote, like this, '7/42, and you will see 7/42, instead of the actual result of division. The ' will not be visible!

No, the client has to have it the way with the division overbar thingee... I've decided unless someone gives me a great miracle I'm going to do it by hand.

I don't have any idea how to "overline". We will be interested in knowing how you solve this tough one! Now, I can do this: 7¯42. That is, 7+"overline"+42, but not 7+42 overlined. Will the 7¯42 be acceptable to your client?

Go to Insert/Object and select Microsoft Equation.

I bet you find what you're looking for there, that is if your need is more visual rather than actually performing calculations.
