I need two formulas to reslove the following information for hundreds of students.
1) How many credit hours has a student earned by completing "Required" classes? 2) How many hours has a student earned by completing "Elective" classes?

1) Range: (G3:AF3) contains a list of classes that are required by various students, but not all students. Range: (G4:AF4) contains the hours earned by completing the class.
Beginning with Row 4, I have placed an "x" in all the cells that are not required by the student and left the ones that are required blank. When I put a "date" in the blank cell, i want the formula to add the credit hours for that class to thestudents total in column D. Each time a class is completed, the credit hours will be added to the total.
2) Range: (AH3:BH3) contains teh list of "Elective" classes and (AH4:BH4) the corresponding credit hours earned when completed. I want to do the same thing here except all the cells are blank until a date completed is entered. The total for "elective" classes will go in column E.

Hope that make sense. Thanks for the help.

Read up on SUMPRODUCT() here. If you want to understand more, you need to put in the effort to learn! Most of us (Aladin excluded) did not pop out of the womb with Excel installed in our brains.
