Cross-referencing cells

Ok... I am now using =vlookup to reference a particular code to a product description, and my particular cost. I now need to formulate the cost to the customer, though the different products will be sold to different customers at different prices...

Example:
If cell 'A1' = Tesco's, the cost for product 123456 will be £1
If cell 'A1' = Sainsburys, the cost for product 123456 will be £1.20

I have a table with the product codes in 1 column, and the costs to different customers in others.

Any thoughts?

you could use VLOOKUP, but instead of making the third parameter say 2, you could make it variable using another statement, e.g. IF, HLOOKUP, etc

e.g. "=VLOOKUP(value,cost table,hlookup(customer,customer list,3,false),false)

How can I create a formula that shows the marked up cost for any particular product code depending upon who I am selling to?

Assuming Costs is name of product code tab and both data tables start in A1
=VLOOKUP(A2,Costs!A2:F3,5,FALSE)

Change 5 to 4 for Sainsburys

Does this not mean that I need to identify manually within the formula who the customer is? What I would like to do is allow the formula to identify the customer, cross reference it with the product code and then give me the correct cost to the customer for each and every product I may type in.
