When i down loaded a csv file and opened it in excel 2013 all data is loaded correctly in the excel worksheet. I.e all data is in columns and numerical values are displayed as numbers.
When I open a csv file in excel 2016 all data is displayed as comma delimited data in one row.

Is there a setting in excel 2016 that i can use to avoid the long process of converting data into colums

When i down loaded my bank statement it down loads as a csv file
If i open tbe csv file in excel 2013 all data is correctly displayed. No need to convert.
All text in correct columns. Numerical values can be calculated. No need to first convert
When I open the csv file in excel 2016 it opens as a comma delimited file
All data in one row. I have to convert all data first before i can use it in a spread sheet

What is your default character for the list separator in your Windows regional settings on the laptop with 2016 , or ;?
