Ctrl+[ Shortcut in Excel 2016?

Hi all,

In Excel 2010, I used to rely heavily on the shortcut "Ctrl+[" which brings you back to precedent cells. For some reason, this shortcut does not seem to be working in Excel 2016 any more. Is there a new shortcut that replaced the old one to do the same?
Note that I am aware of the "trace precedents" function through the ribbon, but what I really need is a keyboard shortcut.

thank you very much!

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.
Welcome to the MrExcel board!

It still works for me in Excel 2016 (stand-alone version, not Excel 365).
Could there be a problem with one of the keys? Have you tried each of the Ctrl keys with the +[ ?
Could you have assigned that key combination to a macro?
Have you closed & restarted Excel? Your machine?
Does it happen in all workbooks?

Hi Peter,

thank you very much for the reply!

Indeed, it seems this had something to do with my language settings. After removing the German version of Excel and installing the English (UK) version of Excel and switching the keyboard layout to English from German, this works now as expected.

But it is trange that the same shortcut combination does not seem to exist in German keyboard layout...

best regards,
