I have a spreadsheet with 300 lines of data and 25 columns. I am using custom auto filter with contains. The column I am filtering contains 11 digit numbers, I am entering the first 6 digits in "contains". I'm not gettting any hits.. What am I doing wrong...

Thanks for your help,
Ernie

Last used cell?
Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
"Contains" doesn't play well with numbers. Try replacing your numbers with the text equivalents (e.g. in another column, put =""&A1 and copy down to change the number 123456 to the text value "123456"). The "contains" filter should be fine for the numbers stored as text.

Hi Ernie

If you didn't want to change the source data, then you can use Greater Than Or Equal to and Less Than Or Equal To criterias to achieve the same result ie for an 11 digit number:

Greater Than OR Equal To 12345600000

Less Than Or Equal To 12345699999
