I'm trying to set a custom formula in data validation to only allow the words "clean" "residues" or also to allow any number in a specific column. I'm still quite new to excel and struggling to find the correct formula to make it work with both specific words and also numbers. I'm ready to pull my hair out because I think it should be easy but cant quite figure it out.

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.

Say for D2, try
Excel Formula:
=OR(D2="clean",D2="residues",ISNUMBER(D2))

Remove any existing DV from that range
Select J5:J300 so that J5 is the active cell
Apply the DV custom formula =OR(J5="clean",J5="residues",ISNUMBER(J5))

Seems so obvious now you say it. That’s worked perfectly. Thanks very much for the help that’s brilliant.
