I have a list of dates in column "A" I want to add a filter to the top so that I can select all the entries that occured in a specific month. I have formatted the entries to be 9/1/2002 and have used custom to select cells that begin with "9" but it doesn't work. Then I formatted the entries to be September 1,2002, and have used custom to select cells that begin with "S" but that didn't work either. Can anyone help me here??

Excel Facts

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
With the date format used did u try to use custom selection with two options selected greater than and less than...will yield a period range that you would then select.

Hi magdamae:

Further to plettieri's suggestion, if you use Advanced Filter in addition to using cell values in your criterion, you can also use cell references in specifying your criterion.

see worksheet simulation ...
