I have a column of numbers. Need to determine, for each value, how many times does it appear in the column.

Any ideas??

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Assuming your numbers are in column A

=COUNTIF(A:A,"*N*")

Where N=the criteria you're searching for.

Actually, I'm trying to create a second column that would list each unique value in column A and how many times that value appears in column A

Let me know if this works for you.

Starting in column B1, formula can be inserted and copied down the entire column:

=COUNTIF(A:A,A1)
