Hello,

I am a novice at Excel, so sorry guys.

I wish to extract data from an existing File.
Column A contains a list of 10 digit random numbers (beginning with standard set of numbers). There are 10 such sets.
For eg:
1234567899 (here 12345 is a set)
1234588796 (here 12345 is a set)
5432199876 (here 54321 is a set)
5432187458 (here 54321 is a set) and so on...

Column B also contains random repeated numbers.
The two columns are independent set of numbers and do not share anything in common.

This is what I want to do and struggling with:
1. From Column A, I want to extract set of numbers which are beginning with a particular set and count them (eg nos beginning with 12345 and so on)
2. I want to count the number of times, a particular random number was repeated in column B.

Please help...would appreciate a lot...if I have not explained it right, please forgive and allow me to better it...

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
Welcome to the board...

Try these...

1.
=SUMPRODUCT(--(LEFT(A1:A10,5)="12345"))

2.
=COUNTIF(B1:B10,randomnumber)

Hope this helps..
