Is there any way to protect a worksheet and still have data grouping functionality available?
There is no need to change the data groups themselves but I need to be able to expand and collapse the established data groups.

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
This might work:

Code:
ActiveSheet.EnableOutlining = True
ActiveSheet.Protect contents:=True, userInterfaceOnly:=True
