data grouping with worksheet password protected

i have seen similar questions posted prior but no replies...

if i group a row of cells using data...group...rows and password protect the worksheet, the group/ungroup feature doesn't work, even if I unlock the cells that were grouped.

is there vba code or another, simpler solution to this problem?
