Hi,

I have got a chart x and y coordinates from a range of cells. After inserting a chart, I've got the dots that tells me the points where each of the x and y coordinates meet. I wonder if there is a way of putting a data label for the dots. For example here is data source

comments x y
Pit Hole1 32.3 20.3
Pit Hole2 12 15
...

So I want to put the label "Pit Hole1" next to the point where the x and y coordinates meet.

Is this possible in excel 2010?

Thank you

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Using Excel 2010, you can right click one of the data dots, then click "insert Label". Will that work?

Thanks for your reply.

No, I could not find "insert label" when right clicking on one of the dots in the chart. All I could find is "add Data label". However, after choosing to add data label, it actually puts on all the dots the y coordinates, rather than the actual name, in my case, the comment column. I think I need to be able to tweak so that it takes three columns - comments, x and y coordinates. I just do not know how to do it.

Thank you

Try this then..
Once you've added your data labels, like you already did, modify them. You can define new custom data labels like this:
Click on your data label then click again to select only that label and not all the others. Then go to the formula bar and type =. Then select a cell on the spreadsheet that contains the text for your label. Repeat the process for the other labels.
