Hi everyone,

Longtime listener first time caller.

I have a couple of tasks that I am trying to complete for my boss. I am trying to rework some data and get some explanatory statistics out of it.

My data set is a time series with 10 variables and about 5800 daily observations.

First: I need to create a new set of only wednesdays for each variable. If wednesday data is not available, I need to select tuesday. I can't seem to write the if statement to save my life. I have created a label column with 0-4 indicating whether an observation is from Monday-Friday.

Second: I need to take the average of each week for each variable and create a new data set of that.

Third: I must pick the each observation from the end of the month. I can get that far, as I could with the first part. My problems start when there is a zero value/no value. How do I get excel to select in that manner.

Fourth: I need to perform the same averaging as question 2, but on the monthly basis. In both cases, I need to drop 0 values from the averages.

I am getting frustrated. I have the data labeled by week of year, where the weeks change, the day of the week. What else could help?

Thank you all very much for your time and input!

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
I did, but the file was too large and excel kept running out of memory.

If I can get the file to work, is there a way to select the specific data to paste to a separate sheet?
