Data Table in Excel Chart

This might seem like a dumn question, but is there anyway of adding a data table to a graph and NOT including the x-axis values in the data table (putting a space between the x-axis and the data table)? I somehow did it for one of my graphs but can't see how I did it! Thanks.

Data tables are a regular pain, because they are so inflexible. I never use them, preferring to label points or create a table in the cells near the chart. The worksheet allows much more control over content and format of the table.
