Hi

I've a data validation list set on a column and it looks at a names ranges - the list is working fine but users can still enter data directly into the cell and bypass the list.

How can I make it so they can only choose from the drop down?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
Do you have any blank cells in the named range it references?

is the 'ignore blank' option ticked or unticked in your validation?

Hi

In Data Validation there are three tabs - Settings, Input Message and Error Alert.

If your named range has no blank cells then all you need to do is click on the error alert tab, and tick the "show error alert after invalid data is entered" box.

You can change the style to Stop, Warning or Infomation depending on how strict you want to be about making the user only use the data on the list.
