Data Validation Error Message

I have cells on Sheet1 that have data validation in a drop down list which are referencing a defined range (=CALL_TYPE) from another sheet in the same workbook. I also have an error alert defined with a simple message that asked the user to choose an item from the list.

I was thinking that if I keyed in anything that was not in the list, I would get the error message pop up. That does not seem to be the case. Even though I have my choices in the list and I can choose any one of them, I can also key in any other value and not get any alert at all.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

On the ERROR ALERT tab there is a check box about showing the error message, is this checked?

Yes it is. I have the box checked, a title for the error message, and a description of the error.

Would it make a difference if the named range that I have defined it located on another worksheet in the same workbook?

I think I just answered my own question. I was hoping to define a range on Sheet2 (A2:A15). Currently I only have 6 of those cells populated with data, but there is a chance that others could be added later. I was just trying to save my self some work in the future by just setting up Sheet2 to allow for more items to be entered and then the validation list would then be updated.
