Data Validation List - Selection changed

Hi,

I have a column with Data Validation List and I need to change the format of the cell next to it according to the selection in the list.

If the user selects the first option the next cell to the right will be red.
If he chooses the second option the next cell to the right will be green.

Is there a way to do that or do I have to use combobox?

(I am using excel 2003)

Or maybe another way to ask this can I in excel 2003 change a format of one cell according to the value of another?
