Data validation list - update selection

My problem is as follows:

I have a cell with a data validation list. The list range changes based on what is entered in an "input cell." The range is dynamic. However, if someone enters a value in the "input cell" and chooses from the dropdown list and then changes their mind and enters a new value in the "input cell", the old selection from the first entry remains in the dropdown list cell. I would like this selection to go away or change automatically based on the input cell. This would avoid errors.

This automatic updating that I am talking about is similar to how the combo box works from the Forms menu. Ideally, I would like the look and fell of the data validation list, but the auto-updating of the combo box.

Is this possible? Thanks.
